Carapax Inundated!!!

During the night between 5 and 6 November heavy rain inundated the whole valley of the Pecora river and the Venelle area, where CARAPAX biological station is situated.

The whole marsh area, zone 4, for insiders was inundated and the water came down from the hill slopes with high speed, threatening more than 2000 turtles.

Fences, wooded balustrades, electric relais have been damaged and the Emys and Trachemys ponds B1 till B13 were all flooded. Fortunately T6 escaped the damage, and T3 and T4 have only little damage.

Zone 5 with the exotics did resist, but all greenhouses and the animals? kitchen are without electricity, and we couldn?t find till now where the damage is.

The Stork colony survived without serious problems, and the Donkeys had been removed the day before to another field. Just in time!

We launch an appeal to all volunteers, friends, veterans, sponsors and other collaborators of CARAPAX, to help to clean up the mess, repair the damage, and especially put into security all threatened animals.

Please let us know in time if you can come by mail carapax(at)cometanet.it or call Veerle +39.347.303.74.62

Thanks a lot!
